Utah’s Provo River, World Class Fly Fishing Minutes from Downtown

The beautiful Provo River is one of the finest trout fisheries in North America. It flows from Utah’s highest mountain range, the Uinta Mountains, through several canyons and mountain valleys and eventually empties into Utah Lake. The Provo’s meanders, riffles, and runs take it directly through the Heber/Midway area, near Park City and Salt Lake City, and through the city of Provo itself. The Provo River is divided into 3 sections: the Lower Provo River, the Middle Provo River, and the Upper Provo River. All of these sections have great trout fishing but the Lower and Middle sections, which are trophy tailwaters, receive the most attention from anglers due to their high trout populations, occasional trophy trout, and easy access.

The Provo River Experts

Utah Fly Guides calls the Provo River our home water. It’s where most of us learned to fish and each of our guides has spent years honing their craft on the beautiful browns and rainbows of the Lower and Middle Provo. These sections of the river hold dense populations of brown trout and ample rainbow trout as well. The fertile tailwaters below both Deer Creek dam and Jordanelle dam produce so much forage these waters support both high numbers of trout and some very large trout at the same time. The popularity of this river can tend to make the fishing highly technical, but we are seasoned experts, knowing exactly what the Provo River fish are eating, exactly what flies to use, and how to present them. We can change your Provo River fly fishing experience from one where you frustratedly watch fish eat everything but your fly into the fly fishing trip of a lifetime.

Fly fishing on the Provo River can be technical, but UFG guides make it seem easy.

Fish the Provo in Any Season of the Year

We offer either full or half day fly fishing outings on a year-round basis. Spring, summer, and autumn are best for full days. However, don’t be afraid to book a fish-filled half day during the winter. The Provo River offers the unique chance to ski and fly fish in the same trip. Having a resource like this that fishes well year round makes this the perfect water for company fly fishing trips or a quick outing during your business trip. We are able to accommodate groups of almost any size from the Salt Lake City, Provo, Park City, or Heber/Midway areas.
