29 Jun Utah Fly Fishing Report, June 29
Our Utah fishing reports give you current information from our trips out on the water. For more information feel free to contact Utah Fly Guides. We apologize that we haven’t made a report for over 2 weeks, but it’s because the fishing is HOT!
Runoff is Over!
These words mean big things for those familiar with fly fishing in Utah. It means that the big hatches are out and the big fish are feeding. Most of the streams and rivers in Utah are in their prime right now.
Utah Rivers
The Rivers of Eastern Utah especially, are producing huge brown trout right now. Reports and documented photos of several browns over 20 inches have come in this week. Green Drakes are hatching in abundance and there are Stoneflies and Caddis to round out the virtual feast that fish have at hand (or should I say at fin?) right now. The next few weeks will see PMD hatches really start to bloom and the feeding frenzy should continue well into next month. The Provo and Weber Rivers are fishing great as well. Caddis flies are making for some great evenings and the PMD explosion is not far off. A few drakes have been spotted here and there and the stoneflies are starting to hatch well in the lower reaches of the Middle Provo. The Green continues to fish excellently as the Green does. Big bugs are working even though the cicada hatch has reportedly been fairly sparse. With all of the action on the other streams, however, I’m not very inclined to head out to the Green for a few weeks.
Utah Lakes
The lake fishing has been steady but not great. With the warm and sunny weather we’ve experienced for a little over a week now the fish are starting to head for the depths. Morning and evening has produced well but daytime fishing has been spotty.
Utah Fly Fishing Forecast
The next several weeks are absolutely my favorite time to be out fly fishing in Utah. The rivers abound with bugs and even though it is hot in the valleys, the weather at the mountain streams we fish is perfect. Make your reservations now for a great fly fishing vacation sometime soon. You will be glad that you took advantage of the great fishing, good weather, and knowledgeable guides at Utah Fly Guides.
