12 Dec European Nymphing / Czech Nymphing the Provo
So several of the UFGs hit the Middle Provo River yesterday. The weather was great – low 40s and partly cloudy. And, best of all, the fish were there. (photos and video to come)
We landed a lot of fish, both beautiful browns and rainbows. And, we got to practice our European nymphing. I Czech nymphed most of the time but did also utilize some more French-type tactics for a while. It worked amazingly well and was the perfect way to break in my new 9 ft 4 wt rod. I hit one spot with a pod of fish. I was able to land 5 in about 7 casts, about 10 in all, utilizing some Czech nymphing.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have clients out there. It would have been an amazing day to catch a lot of fish and learn some new techniques. Winter in Utah provides some of the best fishing of the year. The best part is you can ski one day and fish the next.
Here’s a quick trailer on an upcoming European Nymphing Movies sent to us by our friends at Fly Fishing Frenzy. Looks interesting and informative. Or you can come out for a day with Utah Fly Guides and learn these techniques first-hand.
